1. La Vista Salute to Summer

Salute to Summer is an annual festival held in La Vista, Nebraska, which takes place on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, May 27th, from noon until 10 pm. The festival is held at the La Vista City Hall Campus, located at 8116 Park View Blvd.

The festival begins with a parade starting at noon on Park View Blvd. Once the parade is over, the festival grounds open, which includes food trucks, a beer garden, and the main stage. There is also a car show, a La Vista Keno Beer Garden, and a free community cookout. The community center opens at 2 pm and includes various activities, such as Game-a-thon, pickleball, and black-light 9 square in the air.

For kids, there is a Kid’s Zone that features a variety of activities like a virtual reality game truck, face painting, balloons, chalk art, caricature artist, and carnival games. Additionally, there are several shows, including two wildlife encounters show, a magic show, and a talent show. Singing and dancing with Mister K is available, too.

Throughout the day, there are several musical performances on the main stage, including Guitars 4 Vets – Omaha, School of Rock, Lloyd McCarter & The Honky Tonk Revival, Matt Whipkey, Rhythm Collective, and others. The festival’s highlight is the fireworks and drone show, which begins at 9:30 pm.

There are also various adventure and challenge zones, including inflatables, a climbing wall, laser tag, bungee basketball, human hamster balls, paddle smash, and disc golf.

Parking for the event is available on Park View Boulevard, Harrison Street Baptist Church, Bethany Funeral Home and vacant lot to the east, and ACCESSBank. Shuttle buses are also available from Brentwood Square parking lot, and participants are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs.

La Vista’s Salute to Summer is a fun-filled festival that offers a variety of activities for people of all ages and interests, and it’s a great way to kick off the summer season in La Vista.

2. Papillion Days

The 76th Annual Papillion Days Celebration will occur from June 14th to June 18th, 2023, and will be hosted by the Papillion Community Foundation. This year’s theme is “Summer Fun.”

The celebration will take place in Papillion, Nebraska, with various events happening throughout the city, including the City Park, Downtown Papillion, Grace Baptist Church, and the Papio Fun Park. Public parking will be available throughout Downtown Papillion, at the Papillion Landing, and throughout the neighborhoods. Vendor parking is designated in the lot to the West of the Carnival Fair Grounds.

The celebration will feature a carnival with rides and games, with different hours on each day. There will also be a Market in the Park, featuring local vendors and food trucks, also with different hours on each day.

On Friday, June 16th, the Sarpy County Museum will host “History of Papillion Days,” where attendees can learn about the history of Papillion’s annual community celebration for free.

On Saturday, June 17th, there will be a Kiddie Parade & Duck Paddle at the Papio Fun Park, followed by a parade in Downtown Papillion. Additionally, the Grace Baptist Church will host the Chevy Classic Car Show, and there will be Wildlife Encounter Performances at the Shelter in City Park.

The celebration will conclude on Sunday, June 18th, with a Boy Scout Pancake Feed at the Shelter in City Park and a PAC Band Concert at the SumTur Amphitheater. The Wildlife Encounter Performances will also take place at the Shelter in City Park.

The celebration will end with a Fireworks Show on Friday, June 16th, at City Park, which is free for the public. This is a great opportunity for families and friends to come together and enjoy the summer season while experiencing the community spirit of Papillion.

3. La Vista’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt and Food Drive

La Vista’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt and Food Drive is a fun-filled event held at the La Vista Sports Complex, located on the east side of 66th Street. The event takes place on Saturday, April 8th, and gates open at 9:45 am, with the egg hunt starting at 10:30 am.

The egg hunt is spread out over three soccer fields, with more than 16,000 eggs hidden for children to find. To ensure that each field is age-appropriate and safe for all kids, a new format has been introduced this year, with all age groups starting at the same time.

Soccer Field #2 is for children aged four and under, Soccer Field #3 is for children aged 5-7, and Soccer Field #4 is for children aged 8-10. This means that children will have the opportunity to search for eggs with others of their own age and skill level.

In addition to the egg hunt, the event is also a food drive, with donations being collected for the NeighborGood Community Pantry. Participants are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items and cash donations to help support those in need within the community.

The event is free to attend, but due to the large number of people who attend, it’s recommended that families arrive early to allow time to park and walk to the soccer fields. This is a great opportunity for families to come together and enjoy the Easter season while also giving back to the community through the food drive.

4. Papillion’s Annual Easter EGGstravaganza

The 2023 Papillion Easter EGGstravaganza will take place on April 1st at the Halleck Park Shelter in Papillion. This event is a fun-filled day for kids aged 12 and under. Children are invited to hunt for the Easter Bunny’s treasures and meet the Easter Bunny himself.

The event starts at 1:00 PM and lasts until 3:00 PM. No registration is required, and the event is free for all participants. This makes it a perfect event for families looking for an affordable and fun Easter activity.

The Easter Bunny trail will be the main attraction at the event. Children can follow the trail and search for Easter Bunny treasures. This is a great way for kids to use their problem-solving skills and have fun at the same time. In addition to the Easter Bunny trail, there will be games and other activities for kids to enjoy.

6. SumTur Amphitheater Concert Series

The amphitheater is located on the south of 108th Street and Highway 370 in Papillion, Nebraska, and is just 4 miles east of Interstate 80 (Exit 439).

One of the highlights of the holiday season at Shadow Lake Town Center is the lighting of a brand-new 35-ft. LED-lit tree with over 30,000 lights, which is the largest tree in the state. The lighting ceremony takes place during the annual holiday parade and is accompanied by visits from Santa and his friends.

The holiday parade and Christmas tree lighting event take place annually on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving from 6 to 7 p.m. The parade features live performances from local groups such as the Omaha Street Percussion, Papillion La Vista South High School Titan Marching Band, and the award-winning Stepper-ettes Baton & Dance. The parade also includes glow-in-the-dark jugglers and stilt walkers. Santa and all of his holiday helpers make an appearance in the parade as well.

Following the parade, the tree lighting ceremony takes place, and the tree is illuminated with over 30,000 LED lights, making it the largest LED-lit tree in Nebraska. The ceremony is followed by a holiday lights display that runs throughout the season, Thanksgiving through Christmas. Visitors can enjoy the holiday lights display in the amphitheater at Shadow Lake Town Center each night.
